How to bike in the winter

The Montreal Gazette's Michelle Lalonde has writen a good how-to on winter cycling.

The most important tip: Assume all drivers want to kill you.

Lalonde has many good tips, check out the entire article here (highly recommended).

Yes it was an encouraging report.

Two additional tips and one observation:
-Use flashing LED devices at all times except bright sunlight as drivers do not expect cyclists in the winter
-It is helpful to wear hockey elbow pads since, if you slip on ice, invariably one falls onto the elbows and hands. You can prevent a nasty black and blue elbow or worse.
-the city of Montreal is doing a good job at keeping the de Maisonneuve cycling path clear of snow and ice, the Westmount section is terrible, discouraging, anti-green.
