New signs on Pont Mercier bridge ban bikes
The Mercier bridge has new signs interditing (banning) bicycle and pedestrian traffic from the sidewalk across the bridge.
This bridge really needs it's own cycling/pedestrian-use advocacy group.

No it doesn't. There is going to be made a very nice and much much safer pedestrian walkway / cycleway during the roadworks, and currently they are messing the lanes around to permit the roadworks
Currently it is pretty crazy to ride a bike on the sidewalk section, the sidewalk is crumbling and there is nothing to stop you from just falling straight into traffic that usually is doing about 90 - 100 km/h
I know next to the superstructure you are on the other side and protected a bit, but on the other sides of the bridge it's pretty hairy
will be much better when the work is done, we'll have a nice crossing of the river on bike, and when we ride our motorbikes / cars we won't be hitting that "pothole quilt" that kills your suspension and back...
I crossed on the train bridge, with permission from the train guard, with my wife (pushing my bike). Scary, but doable. I agree with one of the writers: The Mercier NEEDS a bike lane, such as the ones on the J. Cartier and Galipeau bridges.
You crossed the train bridge? Now that's scary. Isn't the purpose of the guard to prevent cyclists on the train bridge, not facilitate them?
